The staff of the HPSCS is responsible for intermediate and long range
planning for the Helix Systems, response to users' problems, installation
and maintenance of software, and related projects. The
staff consists of several system administrators and
scientists who manage the systems, modify and develop
applications and services for the NIH intramural community.

The Operations Section is responsible for the continuous operation
of the Helix systems, including backup of file systems, rebuilding
of file systems after disk replacement, management of user tape mounting
requests, and restoration of users' files upon request. They also
notify vendors as needed for maintenance and repair.
In addition, the Operations Section performs file server backup,
restoration and general file system management services for the Advanced
Laboratory Workstation project.

Users who need
to restore inadvertently deleted files should see if the
file is available in
their snapshot directory, and if
not, contact the Helix staff to find out if the files are available on
a backup tape.
