Use of the NIH Biowulf Login Node (Biowulf)
Date: 06 March 2012 13:03:00From: steven fellini (sfellini@NIH.GOV)
The biowulf login node was hung again last night by a user process using all of available memory, and required Biowulf staff to manually reset the system. This is a reminder to Biowulf users about the appropriate use of the Biowulf login node: file management and transfer, editing and compiling source code, submitting jobs and swarms, and _very_ brief testing of non-memory-intensive code. NO compute and/or memory intensive programs are to be run on the login node. Instead, an interactive node should be allocated, see http://biowulf.nih.gov/user_guide.html#interactive
