Myrinet on NIH Biowulf Cluster (Biowulf)
Date: 08 January 2010 14:01:05From: steven fellini (sfellini@NIH.GOV)
This message is for Biowulf users who submit jobs
to nodes on the Myrinet network ("myr2k").
Myrinet was the first high-performance network
on Biowulf, installed in 2000, and expanded twice
afterwards. As the currently installed Myrinet
technology has become dated as are the nodes
connected to it, the Biowulf staff will be
decommissioning Myrinet over the next several months.
A rough schedule follows.
-- the 40 "p2800" nodes connected to Myrinet will
be the first to be decommissioned in the March-
April 2010 timeframe.
-- the 40 "o2000" nodes connected to Myrinet will
be decommissioned in the May-June 2010 period.
-- the remaining 70 "o2200" nodes connected to
Myrinet will be decommissioned during the
summer 2010 months.
Current users of the Myrinet network are encouraged
to move their applications to the Infiniband network
("ib"), which offers increased performance over Myrinet.
See the User Guide (http://biowulf.nih.gov/user_guide.html)
for more information on Infiniband.
