New storage for Helix and Biowulf (Biowulf)
Date: 28 September 2009 14:09:59From: Helix Systems Staff (staff@HELIX.NIH.GOV)
The Helix Systems Staff is pleased to announce the addition of a new storage system which will increase the total storage capacity by 450 terabytes, and should offer higher performance for i/o-intensive applications. Most users' data directories will be migrated to the new storage system in a phased approach over the next couple of months. With this increased storage capacity, the default quota on /data directories will be increased from 48 to 100 GB by the end of the year. One nightly and one weekly snapshot will be maintained for all data directories. A quota increase request above your current limit may be made at https://helix.nih.gov/nih/storage_request.html Before the migration of a user's data directory begins, any jobs running on either Biowulf or Helix must be terminated. You will be contacted via email in order to schedule the migration. If you would like to have the increased default quota sooner, please contact the Helix Systems Staff via email to schedule the migration. Note: large data directories containing very large numbers of small files (e.g. several million sequence files) will not be migrated to the new storage due to performance and efficiency reasons, but the quotas on those data directories will be increased to 100 GB.
