8 GB nodes available on NIH Biowulf Cluster (Biowulf)
Date: 04 October 2007 13:10:56From: steven fellini (sfellini@nih.gov)
A small number of dual-processor (2.8 GHz) Opteron nodes
configured with 8 GBytes of memory are now available on
the Biowulf cluster. These nodes now have the highest
memory/processor ratio (4GB/1p) on the cluster.
To specify 8 GB nodes, use the "m8192" property, e.g.:
qsub -l nodes=1:m8192 myjob.bat
These nodes should be used for jobs (Gaussian, etc) which
result in swapping on 4 GB nodes, and should drastically
improve performance. Please specify these nodes _only_
for jobs requiring >4 GB memory.
There are currently 32 8 GB nodes, and we expect to raise the
number available to 48. You can determine the number available
with the 'freen' (free nodes) command:
$ freen
m1024 m2048 m4096 m8192 Total
