Configuring PC Eudora 7.* for IMAP and LDAP
Versions of PC Eudora prior to 4.0 do not support IMAP. The current version is available to NIH personnel through ISDP.

Pull down the Tools menu and select Options

  1. Select 'Getting Started'
    • Enter your real name
    • Enter your email address: username@helix.nih.gov (e.g. johnq@helix.nih.gov)
    • Enter the hostname of your incoming mail server: helix.nih.gov
    • Enter your login (username) on the mail server, e.g. johnq
    • Enter the hostname of your outgoing SMTP (mail) server: mailfwd.nih.gov

  2. Select 'Incoming Mail'
    • Choose the IMAP server configuration
    • IMAP mailbox location prefix: mail/
This is the location in your Helix account where your IMAP mail folders will be stored. The suggested value of 'mail/', means that your mail folders will be in the directory /home/username/mail on Helix.

  3. Select 'Sending Mail'
    • Domain to add to unqualified addresses: nih.gov
      (recommended)
    • Enter the hostname of your SMTP server: mailfwd.nih.gov

  4. Select 'Attachments'
    • Choose the MIME encoding method. (This is the most common method, therefore most likely to work between different mailers)
    • Select the option to put text attachments in the body of messages

  5. Click the OK button
